‘A Celebration of Demonstration’ is the creation of Wayne Campbell, London based visual activist and award-winning designer, filmmaker, and critically acclaimed photographer. Jason Bryant and Len Copland are renowned Somerset based photographers and have contributed images taken in Wells, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury and Yeovil. This co-curated exhibition was displayed in the cloisters at Wells Cathedral in February 2026.

The exhibition contains photography that documents the demonstrations following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. These demonstrations took place during the Covid-19 pandemic. Some images include strong language and emotionally charged subject matter relating to racism and public protest.

These works reflect the raw truth of that moment — the anger, grief, solidarity, and urgent calls for change. They are presented to honour the reality of the moment and the voices of those involved.

The moments captured in these photographs are not historical footnotes: they remain present, persistent and pressing.

Somerset African Caribbean Network brings African and Caribbean communities together to connect, campaign, and increase understanding and learning about the contribution and legacy of African Caribbean people to Britain.

Susann Savidge, Chair of  Somerset African Caribbean Network said:

We’ve co-curated this exhibition as an opportunity to reflect on the Black Lives Matter protests and marches that took place nationally and locally in 2020 following the tragic death of George Floyd.

Somerset African Caribbean Network recognise and respect the activists, individuals, families and members of the community who stood in solidarity in Somerset. For some it was a new experience. For others a troubling and weary reminder of past injustices and continuing struggle.
