Wells & Transatlantic Slavery School Visits Programme
A History/RE/PSHE programmed day for Upper KS2 and above.
The day includes a Cathedral and Vicars’ Close tour of visible markers that connect the church to slavery, and discussion around how to acknowledge and remember this history today. At Wells and Mendip Museum, take a close up look at an original Antiguan plantation map and other contemporary sources to look for clues about the lives of enslaved Africans. Options to explore abolition through the city trail (including visiting The Bishop’s Palace) and/or taking part in a spoken word workshop about Mary Prince, who was the first black woman to publish an autobiography of her experience as an enslaved person.
